New protected area introduced in Buryatia to further protect Lake Baikal

The head of the Republic of Buryatia has signed an order establishing a new protected area near Lake Baikal. The new protected area, called the "Selenginsky Zakaznik", will cover an area of 188,000 hectares and will be located along the Selenga River.

The Selenginsky Zakaznik will help to protect the unique ecosystem of Lake Baikal

Lake Baikal, the world's oldest and deepest lake, is home to a diverse array of plant and animal life. The lake is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Selenginsky Zakaznik will help to protect the lake's ecosystem by prohibiting activities that could damage the environment, such as logging, mining, and hunting.

The creation of the Selenginsky Zakaznik is a significant step forward in the protection of Lake Baikal. The new protected area will help to ensure that the lake's unique ecosystem is preserved for future generations.
